Alessandra Pompei
Alessandra Pompei is an Italian-Canadian jeweler based in Toronto with a (very healthy) obsession for beautifully made wedding rings.
Trained in both Toronto and Rome — yes, that Rome — she blends classic techniques with a modern, detail-oriented approach, especially when it comes to her signature pavé settings.
Every piece from Pompei Fine Jewellery is made entirely by her, start to finish, in her studio.
No mass production — just skill, patience, and a little Roman flair.
We're happy to present to you a short interview in which you'll learn about what inspires Alessandra, what she loves and get a glimpse of who she is.
If you could be reincarnated as a flower, which one would you choose and why?
If I could be reincarnated as a flower, I would choose the mimosa. It may not be the most extravagant or delicate bloom, but it’s incredibly resilient thriving in challenging conditions, blooming year after year, and radiating warmth and brightness.
In my culture, the mimosa is also a symbol of femininity, strength, and independence, which makes it even more meaningful to me. Like the mimosa, I admire quiet strength and adaptability.
How does your own work fit into this larger context?
Art has the power to inspire, challenge, and connect us shaping our culture and emotions in ways that are often difficult to articulate. My work, rooted in craftsmanship and tradition, carries personal and historical narratives. I transform precious materials into meaningful heirlooms that evoke emotion and endure through generations. In doing so, I contribute to a broader dialogue of beauty, legacy, and human connection.
Do you have any strategies for overcoming these obstacles?
The equivalent of writer’s block for a goldsmith or designer is hitting a creative or technical roadblock during a project. When that happens, persistence is key. Not everything goes as planned, but a dedication to the process and a commitment to problem-solving helps me push through challenges. I refine and adjust until I achieve the best possible result.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Absolutely, quiet mornings to myself. I love taking it slow with a cup of espresso and a peaceful walk with my dog, Oliva. It’s the perfect way to start the day.
Is there a movie or music band you could watch on repeat and never tire of?
Definitely About Time. I’m a hopeless romantic at heart, and I never get tired of its beautiful message about love, time, and cherishing every moment.
Finally, what is your favorite museum (worldwide)?
Two come to mind, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome and the Ara Pacis.
I have a vivid childhood memory of seeing the Valentino exhibition at the Ara Pacis. The craftsmanship in those gowns completely blew me away it was one of the first moments I truly understood the depth and beauty of artisan work.
