Born in Montreal, Rooted in Love
Ruby Mardi was born in the heart of Montreal, bringing together the finest independent jewelry designers from across Canada under one roof.
At its core, Ruby Mardi is a love story—between two people, but also between art and craftsmanship.
This deep connection to love naturally led us to a passion for engagement rings, wedding bands, and jewelry with meaning.
How It All Began
Victor Benaderette always knew he would follow in the footsteps of his mother and grandmother—both artists. After exploring contemporary art and photography in Paris, he found his true calling in gemology and jewelry design, eventually launching Bena Jewelry in Montreal. His bold, statement-making designs quickly found their way to New York and Toronto.
But there was one problem: Montreal lacked dedicated spaces for independent jewelers to showcase their work.
Victor was struck by the vibrant, thriving world of fine jewelry in Canada—a new generation of designers redefining high jewelry with breathtaking craftsmanship. Yet, they had little presence in traditional jewelry stores. Why weren’t these artists being seen?
That’s when the idea for Ruby Mardi took root:
Alone, we are invisible.
Together, we are unstoppable.
Victor never believed in competition among fellow jewelers. Instead, he saw strength in unity, a way for independent designers to break through the sea of mass-produced, uninspired jewelry dominating the market.
Then came Karène Lefebvre, a graphic designer with a background in cinema and literature, who had never imagined she would fall in love with the world of fine jewelry. But Victor’s passion was contagious. When the pandemic created an opportunity to secure a boutique space in Montreal’s Little Italy, she jumped headfirst into the adventure. Karène became the artistic director of the brand, breathing soul and personality into Ruby Mardi in every way it unfolds: from the physical boutique to the poetic floral universe, from jewelry photoshoots to social media storytelling.
And so, Ruby Mardi was born.
